FHTV Midwest Potluck Picnic

Let me first begin by apologizing to Al - I've had this e-mail since 8/23 and couldn't figure out how to get the pictures to the blog. So SORRY Al. I think I finally figured out how to get the pictures from our e-mail address to the blog. I'm so thrilled - that is my lesson for the day. bj

Al & Donna Mendenhall hosted the 3rd anuual FHTV midwest Potluck Picnic. A light mist fell through out the day. That probably is a factor why out famous "punmaster" alias Gene Smith, was missing. He was home dealing with 8" of water in his basement, a problem park models never have! 38 people were in attendance, plus a few "real turkeys". Everybody agreed to meet again in Tucson, soon!

Sunday Social September 16, 2007

Sponsor: Jan Waldron (86th birthday yesterday)

Happy Birthday Jan!!

Diane and Ed Casey are also back.
Nancy Jepson will return to FHTV on October 2nd.

SPECIAL!!!! It snowed in Minnesota yesterday, September 15th.

Northern Pike Record

This is the new record in Canada. He caught it on the Winnipeg River near Seven Sisters, in Manitoba.

This guy (in the photos above), was fishing and caught a 36" Pike. As he was reeling it in, a 56" Pike tried to eat it!

He landed them both in the same net.

Awesome catch on a river in Canada - 55lbs-56 inches.
It goes to show you that live bait works the best for the giant fish.
These pictures of a Northern Pike where taken on
the Winnipeg River close to our home near Lac du Bonnet , Manitoba.
Awsome fish!!!!!!

Hope to return to our winter home Nov.02/07

We got our first snow flurries this morning - would love to leave for Tucson, but have a land sale holding us up. Got cold, rainy, windy weather here this week, not at all pleasant. However, will be there asap.

News from Janee & Mike Arnoff

Hi, BJ and all!

Things have changed a lot for us and it's happened pretty suddenly. Michael's tumor has begun growing again and is now in the temporal and frontal lobes. He has a catheter (because of incontinence combined with a frightfully unsteady gait and weakness). Since then (8/20), he's gotten so weak that he is in a wheelchair all the time, unless he's in bed or in a chair. Steps are out of the question. He needs help with just about everything, except that he still feeds himself, as long as I cut his meat.

He had a grand mal seizure on Friday, so now he's on anti-seizure medicine. His blood sugar was very high, so now I test his sugars and give him insulin shots. The diabetes is from the steroid that he takes to keep his brain swelling down.

His spirits are good, but he can't communicate on his own very well. He does well with yes/no questions. He still enjoys things (like when we went to the Indy Zoo today!) but then can't tell what we did. He sleeps from 8 at night till 9 in the morning, and then naps in the afternoon.

Caring for him is easy and fun, since I love him so. He is so well-mannered, cooperative, and sweet, just as he always has been.

We decided not to proceed with further treatment and to let Hospice into our lives. They come 3x a week to bathe him, and we have other visits too. They are going to be a very good thing for us, and enable me to keep him at home, rather than having to put him someplace else.

Michael won't be returning to Tucson. It would just be too scary for me to try to take him now, because there is just too much of a risk that he would die on the trip, and I would much rather he die here than in Oklahoma or something. I will come when I can, and .. I'm thinking that I'll be able to leave within a couple of months, when he dies and I'm ready to travel.

I wish that I had cheerier news, but .. that's what's going on. I wish everyone safe travels back to Tucson, and I'll see you when I arrive!

BJ, I do hope to still do the photography thing that we had talked about. I've also talked with Ione Condit about this, and she has some great ideas. If I don't make it back soon enough, I'll bet she would take the reins for awhile.

Hugs all around,
Janee

It appears Ray Ouimet beat his sister-in-law Edwina Dale in the tomato raising contest in upstate New York. After the last few nights in Turtle here in Maine, we (Bob and Claire) figure these tomatoes just barely missed the first frost. They'd better pick the green ones for fried green tomatoes and pack their suitcases for Tucson!

Would you look at that grin!

Mike & Vicki are headed Home

Hello, Hello !
We are headed back to Tucson, are You ???
We left the Pacific Northwest coast the day after Labor Day and drove east across Idaho (short trip !), Montana & South Dakota, then south thru Nebraska & Kansas into Oklahoma City to see Vicki's other Mama and family. We spent the nights in truck stops this trip and drove long days to get here as quickly as possible to have at least a full week with Mama. Missed stopping to see Coralee in Wichita this year, but one week isn't nearly enough time here with family. We will pull out Saturday for Elephant Butte, Demming and Tucson by Sept 20, 21. Hope it has cooled off some by then!
As B J says, we are anxious to get home and to see all of you again. Love those Hugs !!

Sunset over South Twin

Dick, Sharon and Claire, cruising.

Bob and Claire Rogers: We did managed to find Millinocket and East Millinocket, Maine, home to: Sharon and Dick Moscone, Diane and Ed Casey. We just missed Sandra who'd escaped the Tucson heat for awhile with her sisters. Dick and Sharon took us out on their pontoon boat on South Twin lake they keep at Camp; we enjoyed sunset colors and one loon. Later we visited Diane and Ed at their camp just down the lake, and the next night met Dick and Sharon's daughters and sons-in-law at a get-together for Diane's birthday; Mexican food, what else! We had a beautiful place in the woods to park Turtle and enjoyed an all night all day rain. We hope for better weather and fall colors soon, as we wander the Northeast like the vagabonds we are.

FHTV Computer Blog

Hi Folks,

Bob Rogers asked if I would create a How To Blog for the computer users at FHTV. I recently created the blog, and sent invites to all users on my FHTV friends list. Bob Rogers was the only one to reply :-). I suspect my invites were deleted, because no one recognized my hotmail address as anyone they know. My blog does not contain any personal topics. I have created so far the following categories: XP Topics, Vista Topics, Windows Live Writer, Notes, Word 2002, 2003, 2007, Windows LiveOne Care, and Hints. I am sure more blogs will be added to the categories over time. Visitors can choose to read what they are interested in.

If you are interested go to this link http://edmassenanewyorkblog.spaces.live.com/default.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0 and sign in. Yes, sign in...my blog is private. It was not created for public view by everyone. Let me know if there is some other topic you would like to read on the blog..other than photography...that is not my thing.

Thank you for your time

Edwina

End of Summer

Well guys -- it's the end of summer. Where did the time go? I hope that you all had a fun, healthy, prosperous summer and are ready to head back to Tucson soon. The summer here in California was busy but we all know that I prefer to be busy and not just sitting around looking "pretty" :}

I will be heading back to Tucson on the 15th of September can hardly wait to see all the changes both out in the park, as well as, the changes made in the compound area. Mr. Hays tells me that the "old 70's" colors ARE NO MORE that we now have BOLD NEW color in the AB Room, and Room C.

Roger and Jeff have worked very hard this summer getting the new patio sites ready for this season. Their hardwork is greatly appreciated by all, I'm sure. I understand there have been changes in our janitorial staff this summer and I'm looking forward to meeting the new staff member.

Well that's all from here for now. Have a safe trip back to Tucson. See you soon!
