News from the Blankenbakers

We just brought up the FHTV blog and really enjoyed seeing all the news, pictures, etc.

Like almost all the country we have had a hot and humid summer and finally got much needed rain last week. Hoping for a good crop year for the farmers.

We are looking forward to the Midwest party at Mendenhalls next week and hope to get back to Tucson a little earlier this year.
Keep the blogs coming.

Spaghetti Dinner

Thursday early evening, 4PM, spaghetti was served in the Fiesta room. Fifty two people paid $2.50 for spaghetti and meat sauce, garlic bread and salad. Jules Croft, George and JoAnn purchased all the makings and the money collected went to MDA. Each year they take volunteers and "take them to jail." You have to make bail by collecting moneys. This year it was George's turn. It was a hard decision. We really wanted to leave him there.

More Bob and Claire Visits

Claire and Bob Rogers were hosted by Edwina Dale at her home in Massena, NY. She fed us well, which we needed after a bike ride the day before, and showed us some of the local sites, including a visit with her sister Arlene and brother-in-law Ray Ouimet, all residents of FHTV in the winter. There seems to be a first-ripe-tomato contest going on: here are Ray and Arlene's.
As you can imagine, Bob and Edwina went computer crazy the whole time; both now have Vista and played all day while Claire worked on her computer. Fun visit.

SUNDAY SOCIAL & NEWS

August 5th Sunday Social was sponsored by Shirley & Bruce Briggs, "just because." There were 17 people who attended.

Jeff Neeper 607 Gila injured his right knee this summer & recovered but was reinjured during therapy but is now doing better.

June Ross had a slight stroke Sunday but is back home and doing great.

Esther Whitehead is moving to an apartment at "Fellowship Square."

Chapel Services begin again for the season by popular demand this Sunday August 12th. Service starts at 11:00 AM in the Fiesta Room.

Square Dancing restarting 6:00 PM Monday evenings in the Fiesta Room August 27th. Everyone welcome.

HEY !!!! What do you all think? Is the season upon us or what. The Communication room, TV room, Library, C room (Cactus room), and the AB rooms are all a mess with construction. Each day we get a little closer to being done. Rick Olasin, the constractor says if I would quit adding more things for him and Don Wallace and Chuck Loddy to do they could get done. Ha! Don has hung lights and fans in the communication room and Chuck has done the molding, painting and anythings else I can come up with. Rick you may know from around the Village. He and Wendy Bean, 388 moved over to FHE last fall. He has added a wall and will rework the library shelves.

Finish out your summer as it's almost time to return to the Village and all the things BJ, Shelene and Vicki have planned for you.

More later
Take Care and be safe and healthy
JoAnn

Monsoons

The monsoons have really been dumping water on the Tucson area. The best thing is has picked a different area each day. The Village has fared very well. The little wash has run to within an inch of over flowing the bridge. The Pantano wash has ran a number of times but nothing deep and all the way across, yet. Bob Baker on 327 did loose part of his awning in a wind storm before the monsoons hit but that has been all. The picture of the lady leaning out of the van into the trunk of her car was taken at the Compass Bank at the corner of Pantano/Broadway where the water was mid hubcap. I'm not sure about the other picture. A 65 year old man did loose his life last night over on Iverington and Park. If I understand it right his SUV was washed off the road into the Rodeo wash where it tumbled a couple of time ending driver side down trapped in an underpass, totally submerged. There is to be more monsoons this week and weekend and then it looks like a drying trend. More later. Stay Healthy!

BJ Banter

I haven't posted anything for awhile - it's not that I haven't been thinking of all of you; it's just that we have been very busy here. We had the 4th of July weekend which lasted for 9 days (because of the 4th falling on a Wednesday) and this past week we had the Amador County Fair. The fair is always hectic for us and for the next two or three weeks we will be battling the flies that invariably come after the fair. It will be good to get back to Tucson where it is too hot for flies. (I hope)

From the postings on the blog I see that you all are having a really good summer wherever you may be. We can all look forward to some cosmetic changes in the park when we get back, we may not recognize the place!!

My schedule brings me back to Tucson around September 15th and I look forward to seeing y'all there. Take care and have a safe trip back to Tucson.
